After the tragedy at the Chernobyl station in 1986, the affected people who took part in the elimination of these terrible consequences and those who lived in the territories adjacent to the station, without receiving help from the Soviet authorities, began to gather and in 1991 united into a public organization " Chornobyl Ukraine Union" (GO SHU). Chernobyl is not only a planetary historical event, but also a symbol of courage, sacrifice and unity of Ukrainians. People who witnessed and participated in the liquidation of the consequences of this disaster still carry a heavy cross of responsibility for future generations on their shoulders.

Since its creation (03.09.1991), the management of the SCU has carried out tremendous work in the interests of social protection of the residents of Chernobyl: article 16 was introduced into the Constitution of Ukraine - "Ensuring ecological safety and maintaining ecological balance on the territory of Ukraine, overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster - a catastrophe of a planetary scale, preserving the gene pool of the Ukrainian people is the duty of the state", adopted the Law "On the status and social protection of citizens who suffered as a result of the Chernobyl disaster".

When the members of the SCU NGO faced the same indifference from the authorities of already independent Ukraine, at the end of 2002 they created the Social and Environmental Party "Soyuz. Chernobyl. Ukraine." (26296630). During the years of struggle for the rights of the people of Chernobyl, we forced various governments to pay attention to us and sought improvements for many of the victims. But these were handouts from the government, which, like pills for a headache, relieved the symptoms for a while, but did not change the true attitude towards the citizens who gave their lives and health for the government's miscalculations and indifference.

Now it is already about the physical survival of the Ukrainian people, and we should not stand aside, but take a firm position regarding the two main challenges for Ukraine: the external aggression of the Russian Federation and the internal sabotage of the authorities, which borders on treason, which has been going on for more than one year. If with regard to the aggression of the Russian Federation, among us the only opinion is that the enemy must be defeated and the borders must be restored, then with regard to the authorities, we must develop a position and begin to implement it, without which Ukraine cannot win. Therefore, it is necessary to update the organization and develop a new strategy for the reboot of the Republic of Ukraine on a solid ideological platform of knowledge about the development of society, civilizational values, the accumulation of pragmatists in its ranks, the development of a program of successive steps that will allow Ukraine to become a self-sufficient republic of free and responsible people. Currently, the organization is 33 years old — the age of Christ. We have grown up too. Our ranks include the wisdom of 80-year-olds, the experience and knowledge of 60+, the capabilities and assertiveness of 40+. Today, we feel that this experience, formed over the years, should also help the soldiers, participants in the hostilities and all our brothers who, like the people of Chernobyl, protect Ukraine, giving their health and lives.
